My car got TOWED! (part 2)

STOP!!! before continue on make sure you've read part I FIRST! it's just so much better that way.

............................................................

So keep in mind that it's 7am now, i'm still in my clubbing attire from the night before, standing soberly in the middle of downtown with crowds of people in their jogging shoes warming up for the Shamrock run. The streets were bright and there I was, waiting for the cop to get off his radio so i can question him about my car.

The police office at the crime scene was not helpful at all, to be honest, i think he was giving me attitude.

me: "umm... dude, where's my car?"
officer: "you shouldn't have parked there."
me: "dude.... where's my car?"
officer: "did you not see the signs?"
me: "dude...the signs weren't there last night, and where's my car?"
officer: "i don't know... but the tow truck should be coming by soon to pick up that other car."

not helpful at all... luckily, as he was saying that, the truck came by and there were a number to call on the truck.

me: "hello...?"
nice girl on the other line: "hi, can i help you?"
me: "yea, did you guys just towed a very powerful, yet sexy, silver mercury tracer?"
girl: "year 99'?"
me: "yea! that's the one"
girl: "yep. we've picked it up and it's parked on main between 6th and broadway."
me: "how much do i have to pay for it?"
girl: "nothing, it's just parked there and you can pick it up anytime."
me: "so... i don't have to pay at all?:
girl: "yep."
me: "THANK YOU."

told you the girl was nice. it could be either that or the fact that i had seduced her with my dead sexy deep voice that i always get after a night of hard drinking. Or... it could be that the no parking sign wasn't up last night... take that officer! Either way the car ended up with its rightful owner, the Monkey and Yours Truly were reunited once again!

So now, it is 7:30ish... Sunday morning... my friend had taken off to get some sleep leaving the wild mustang in the jungle by itself. I have church in 3 1/2 hours, i could either go home and sleep... or do something else.

If i were to go home and sleep.... 1) i probably will sleep past church, 2) since i'm still living w/ me parents... it's probably not a good call to come home so late. And for some reason, maybe it's because of all the ppl downtown, or maybe because i'm still sobering up, I feel like i'm not ready to call it a night, i feel like i want to do something else... something like... run the Shamrock Run. So... I did. After all, the wild mustang's gotta roam free right?

I'm calling up my friend, let's just call her Bubble Tea, knowing that she'll be running at the Shamrock Run.

me: "hellooooooo!"
BTea: "hellooooooo!"
me: "you still running at the Shamrock?"
BTea: "yep."
me: "sweet, when's race time?"
BTea: "8:30am"
me: "i'll see you there!"

Bubble Tea warned me that it was a 15K, which at that time sounded like a stroll in the park. it's just 15K, that's like 8.35 miles ... i have 3 hours to complete it before i have to be at church. it should be a piece of cake david. you can do it. Oh... damn those wild mustang thoughts.

I figure I should buy some running shorts since i'm still wearing my clubbing attire. However, it's was quite hard trying to find some shorts at 8 in the morning and thus forcing me to run the race in... my clubbing attire. To improvise, i took off my dress shirt. will i look stupid running with my jeans on? hmm... nah, it will be fine. there'll be so many people that no one will notice. good thing i went out last night in my sneakers, take off my shirt and that'll be perfect. Perfect my ass.

Given the situation, I still had a lot of fun and i'm glad that i had done it. The first 3-4 miles was not bad at all, we were going at our own pace and letting everyone else passing on by and saving our energy for the 2nd half of the run. The weather was perfect, it was cool but not dark. the only thing that could have made it better was if it started pouring down rain at our last mile as we cross the finish line. Everything went great in the beginning, and then it all went down hill.

If you've read my earlier posts, you'd know that the day after heavy drinking I'd have this urge to poop. to get the bad stuff out of my system! well, this morning was no different. So after about a mile into the race the urge started. At first it was small, like a signal in my body going off. "hey david, hey, umm... when you have time maybe you want to take care of this large stinky pile of shit... you know. yea... whenever you're ready." Then as the miles went on, the urges grew. but what's a man to do? to stop the race and surrender to your own poop? never! You suck it in, keep it tight, and keep on trucking! All while with a smile on your face and acting cool to pull off running 9.35 miles in jeans.

The jeans, btw, are not recommended. out of 11,000 runner that day, i can proudly say that i am the only person wearing jeans. yep. And every mile or so i would hear ppl talking to their friends, "look at that guy in jeans.. is he crazy?" I'm sure every one points them out, but every know and then a deaf one will scream it out thinking that i can't hear them while i'm running right in front of them! Around mile 6, one of the nicer lady curiously asked what's the story behind the jeans. I told her that i was downtown clubbing all night last night and saw these ppl this morning as i was going home and decided to run as well. I think she thought i was kidding.

After mile 7 things started to get really rough, I hit a wall and started feeling dizzy. not sure if it's the alcohol or the lack of sleep or from holding in my poop so long. Either way, i was doubting my decision. umm... david, i know you're a wild mustang and all but... this might be a bad call. yea... kinda like the time you decided to climb that 12,300 ft snow covered mountain in your jeans, on 3 hours of sleep, and no sunscreen. yea... kinda like that. ironically, I was wearing the same pair of shoe as i was on that day. talk about a good pair of shoe!

I ended up chickening out and had to walk part of the last 2 miles because I was too tired. I tried but my butt just would not stop fighting me. with each pounding step i felt like i was going to shart on myself. So i took it easy. it was probably a good call, 'cause i have to go to church afterwards.

We did finish the race pretty strong. Our last half was faster than our first half of the race and we were passing people left and right. Now if it weren't for me holding Bubble Tea up, she would have had a killer race time. In the end, we finish the 15K in 1:42min. which weren't bad, but we were shooting for 1:40min.

Felt so dizzy afterwards, almost fell asleep in the park while waiting, and had trouble just walking back to my car. I really really regret not having breakfast that morning. That, and also not pooping before the big race. such a rookie mistake. beside that, it was great. one of the most enjoyable run of my life. had fun, had a great workout, felt alive.. and dead the same time. it was really good.

So i guess if there's anything to take away from this really really long story is that...

first of all, eat breakfast. 'cause you never know when you might need it.

second, always prep yourself before the big race/game/test. if you don't then you'll not going to finish well. Chances are you will still finish and it will be alright, but it won't be your best.

third, trust your wild instinct. from the words of the great Chris McCandless, "nothing's more damaging to the adventurous spirit within than a secure future." Your body will tell you what it needs.

and lastly, if you decide to go clubbing downtown... park at the right spots. And call your parents and let them know, 'cause it just might turn into an all-nighter.

My parent's were relieved to see me at church that morning, knowing that i'm alive. Sunday school was a blur, it's a good thing that i only had to lead games that morning. But i was told that the kids enjoyed it. eh... it probably would be more enjoyable if my jeans weren't soaked.

My car got TOWED! (part 1)

Before I begin, I just wanted to point out a few things...

first of all, it is not wise to drink a 32oz Foster's while blogging in bed after a night of clubbing. 'cause then you woke up w/ your laptop on the floor all scratched up and way late to work.

second, yay for day-light savings! now my clock will actually read the correct time.

third, i bought a full suit at target's on sale for 69.99! that's pretty cheap. what's even cheaper was that i also bought a suit from Goodwill priced 8.99! And then the cashier took 50% off, so i ran away with it for $4.49!!! Muh-hahaha!

lastly, if you decide to go clubbing downtown.... make sure you pick where you park carefully. it sucks really bad when your car decides to teleport on you.

So it's been awhile since i've been out in Portland, thus my friends and I decided to paint the town red again on Saturday night, just like back in the old days. It was a nice night for going out, the air smelled with a hint of wetness but there were no showers, the air felt warm with waves of cool breeze. And like any other normal night, I parked at my favorite secret parking spot (yes, for those of you cool enough, it is THE secret parking spot next to the max-tracks.), except this time the streets were filled up so we had to park in the parking lot next to it. $3 will get you parking all night till 4am. And since no one's there to manage it, it's pretty safe if you leave it there till morning, unless there's some special event that day.

We decided to go to B-cuda 'cause it was different from our usual place. I didn't mind it, it really all seems about the same to me, usually it's not about the place but the people that you go with that makes all the difference. It was my third time the the Cuda, and for some of us, it was their first. The players were my partners in crime from grade/middle school, partners in crime from work, and partners in crime from church. All the players gelled together, it might be because we are all really really cool, or it might be because of the alcohol. I don't know... maybe i'll ask them later. But either way, we had fun, and the night was approaching 2am. It felt fast, but time never lies. and we were a bit late in getting there, didn't get in till close to 12:30am. At last call, the bar-lady mistaken my yager bomb and beer chaser for yager bomb and gray goose chaser. How'd that happen i will never know. But it did, and i didn't complain. But i do have to say... i hate shots. i can't take it. don't know how to open my throat so i always taste the full effect of the shot and THEN swallow it down. it sucks.. but sucks less if you divide the shot into two half shots... that's how i roll.

We were still feeling really good after our last call, and there's two simple explanation for it. 1) we started late and we really didn't have that much to drink, or 2) the alcohol hasn't kick in yet. I was hoping that it's because of the first reason, but i was wrong. To make a long story short, the alcohol did kick in eventually, and when it did, it really kicked. Another bad thing about shots is that it sneaks up on you, there's no happy medium with shots, one minute your as dry as an ant, the next minute you're as wet as an ant on water. And i was swimming...

So we sobered up at my friend's place, stayed pretty close to downtown, and the next thing you know, it's 7am!!! stupid day-light savings... i got church in 4 hours. So my friend drove me to pick up my car only to find that... it's not there!!! Now i did move it away from the secret parking lot earlier the night because i found out that they were putting up fences and using the area for the Shamrock Run on Sunday. So i parked it on the street right next to it. But I guess they're using the street for the run as well... 'cause it wasn't there either.

to be continued...

the great thing about blogging is that you get to keep track of your past posts. it's a fun way to looking back at the good time and laugh at how young and stupid you were at the time. more often then not, the things that were stressing you out at the time, and the things that were your world and everything else with it seems now... silly.

it's crazy how one year can have so much impact on one's life. One small year, 365 days, and a whole world later, your life is... not the same. and it never will be again.

i had the time to catch up w/ one of my close friend from high school tonight and really updated each other on what happened and what's been going on and more importantly, what our goals for the future is. And i have to say, boy... i could not imagine where i am today and how i've changed a year ago. it's as if i'm living a different life, as a different person. the characteristic are still similar but the actions and the process of thought are so much more complex. as it is with different experiences and ideas.

i don't know which version of david is better, the old one or the new one. i'd like to think that i'm the same person as i am yesterday, but with much more responsibility and a lot more mature than i was a year ago. the real world is definitely a lot harder than what it was in college, more challenges, more responsibilities, as well as more experiences to mold you into the person that are destine to be.

sometimes you just don't know who you are until you are put into a situation where it pushes you to the max and thus forces you to figure out what is important in your life and how you want to make a living. i'm glad that i had the chance to figure this out early in my stage and that i have the power to do whatever i wanted to do in life because i know i can do it. we all have the ability to learn and gain the skills necessary to achieve our uttermost goals and lifestyle, it's just getting to there from here that is the hard part. but with hard work and persistence, you are bound to make it. once you've made the decision to do it, then it becomes not a matter of "if", but a matter of "when". We are all born dangerously, but some choose to stay dangerous while some choose to be just comfortable. don't sell yourself short. step out of the boat, take a chance, and by God's good grace, just go with it. it might not seem like it's the rational choice, but as long as it's what your heart desires, it will be the right choice.

find yourself, spend time with him/her, ask questions, live life as who you are, and most importantly, be yourself. Make a list of goals that you want to accomplish in the next 5 years. once you have that done, then make the necessary steps to achieve it. Tell you're friends, tell everybody, tell me.... so we can keep you accountable. it you do that, you will, i repeat, you WILL achieve your goals.

Finals coming up in a few weeks folks. For some of you this will be cake, and for the other half of you guys, this will be the hardest thing you've ever done in your God given life. either way, i want to wish the best of luck to all of you. Study hard and leave no regrets.

go and do it. period.

Let your beauty fall

it's march.

i'm tired,

and yet we marches on.

because soon,

it will be...

June.

time... the one thing that doesn't wait for anyone. i often wished that i have the special power to freeze time, or maybe have an extra day in the week than anyone else. Just think about how powerful that'd be. an extra day to relax, catch up on your reading, maybe even watch the shows you've tivo-ed. 24 hours to use against your foes, upgrading your skills and beating them at their game. how cool would that be?

it's nice to daydream, but it is what it is. And daydreaming is just... dreams. God gave us all a fair playing ground. 24 hours, and that is that. What we do with it and how productive we are with our time is completely our responsibility. If your not careful, time will fly you by.

I stopped by the old high school the other day, had to visit my old japanese teacher, who is also my client :), for some paperwork. Turns out it's the day of their japanese club/anime club meeting so there were a lot of students after school. Being the great matchmaker that my teacher is, she introduced me to the club president, she's probably almost 18, but she looked 14.

j-teacher: "here david, look around.. there's a lot of girls here. you can have your pick." (hinting at the 14-yr old.)
14-yr old club prez: "uhhh.... how old are you?"
me: caught way off-guard but yet trying to play it cool "i'm 23." proudly
14-yr old club prez: "ewww.. you're too old."
me: "..." did i just got rejected by a highschooler?

To my defense, i wasn't even trying to pick her up in the first place 'cause it's illegal. And two, it's been a while since i was in the high school arena, and those peer-pressure can really get to you and ruin your game. it's true... However, aside from the 400pts plummet on my self-esteem, she did get her point across. I am getting old. I'm 23 now, going to be 24 in summer, looks like i'm 9, acts like i'm 12, but lives as if i'm 34. somethings' wrong here 'cause it's not adding up. And i'd better fix it soon and start living my life, 'cause it's going to be June soon.

The president of the united states have the same amount of time in the day as we do. And just imagine his list-to-dos' and compare it w/ yours.

his: explain to north korea that north pole is not a threat and the penguins are not mocking them in order to stop an all out nuclear attack again the elves.
yours: wake up at 10am
his: save the polar bears from drowning due to global warming.
yours: make dinner.

point taken. The fact is that time is valuable. And the great thing is that we all have enough time in our day to save the world like jack bauler. it's just how we use it. if you, me, us, can cut 3.5 hours a day from our activities. cut down our tv time in half, shower in 10 minutes, take only 2hr naps instead of 4, avoid internet browsing. if we can do that, we can save 3.5hrs a day. and if we can save 3.5hrs a day, we'd have an extra 24hrs a week to relax, catch up on your readings, and upgrade your skills so you can beat your foes. how cool would that be?

with that said, this post took an hour to write. and it's 2:34am. and i'm stupid.

over and out.

to my ex-roomies,

Happy March Birthday!
